Amir is the nephew of The Baggara sheikh Hachem AlBashir, and lives in exile in Sanliurfa, southern Turkey, where many expelled tribesmen from northeast Syria reside. He is a member of the Council of Tribes and Clans, linked to the Syrian opposition.
